About the Artist

Maya Stevens is a bookbinder and artist based in Oakland, CA. She graduated from Mills College in 2019, where she had the good fortune to study under the world renowned book artist Julie Chen (Flying Fish Press). During this time, Maya fell in love with the construction of books, learning that she favored form over content.

Since graduating, Maya has continued to hone her craft, taking workshops at the San Francisco Center for the Book, and hoarding books about bookbinding like a dragon.

She works from her home studio, aided by her trusty studio assistant, Chessy the cat.
